Directions for application
Carlisle Hardcast Europe B.V. is giving special attention to the quality of their products, however a good care cannot guarantee a durable and perfect adhesion only. Professional support and proper technical information are also vital factors for a successful application. If required our experts are available for professional instruction before and during the job. Under mentioned you will find some helpful instructions for a perfect application.
General
In order to get a good bonding, a 100% contact between adhesive and substrate is absolute necessary. Any material (moisture or loose parts) possible effecting this contact must be removed before application. The Carlisle tapes are pressure sensitive tapes. This means they must be pressed firmly direct after application. The success of the tapes strongly depend on a proper application and keep in mind only a 100% seal is watertight…… If you have any doubt? Please contact your supplier.
Porous substrates (stone, brick or concrete)
Use of the PR3 primer is strongly recommended
remove dust and all dislodged cements, stone or concrete parts and take care for a solid basis. All porous materials must be treated with a primer; use Hardcast Primer type PR3 for a tight adhesion. The surface must be 100% dry before application; moisture under the tape can seriously affect the adhesion. Application temperature ≥ 5°C. Apply the primer smoothly with a brush; observe carefully the instructions on the label. Primer PR-3 is a fast drying primer; therefore close the tin directly after use in order to keep the primer liquid. Apply the tape approx. 10 minutes after application of the primer, depend on the weather conditions; primer must feel dry. Remove the release liner of the tape equally during the application and protect the adhesive against dirt. Press the tape firmly on all spots and pay special attention to the edge; no full adhesion of the edges can cause a leakage. If the concrete or stone material is very irregular no proper contact with the surface is possible. In such case we recommend to seal the upper edge of the tape with a bitumen sealant in order to prevent possible penetrating water under the tape. If necessary use an overlap of at least 5cm.
Airduct sealing (galvanized metal)
The Hardcast sealing tapes, designed for airducts sealing, have a very good initial tack; depend on temperature they will bond within 24 hours to the substrate; especially the bonding to galvanized metal and aluminum is excellent; the surface must be commercially clean and dry; remove all dirt, oil, rust, paint mastics etc; be sure the metal is dry and free of moisture; a maximum stretch of 3% is allowed; press the tape firmly and be sure the contact between tape and surface is 100%.
Peel 75-100mm of the liner off the sticky side of the tape; next start the leading edge on the surface; press down firmly and apply; User should insure a minimum 100mm overlap; minimum application temperature is +5°C; store the tape at a dry place; recommended storage temperature is +5°C en +35°C.; for special applications, please contact your supplier.
